Alternative MIDI Interface

I discovered something neat today. Something I felt I should share. So I figured I would start a blog. Here goes.

I have several older keyboards that I like to use to control my computer software (ie. as midi controllers). Since they are older, they do not have USB connections and I've been using a midi interface for the last few years to connect and use them with my DAW and VSTs.

However, I have a Korg padKontrol that is a USB midi controller AND has midi input. I could never figure out the purpose of this input until it hit me this morning: you can use any USB midi controller with midi input as a "midi interface", replacing the need to purchase such a box if you've got older keyboards lying around that you want to use to control software synths.

I wish I had known this when I bought my midi interface though. I would have taken the $100 and invested it in my padKontrol. Just a warning then to those looking at picking up a midisport or similar product.
